Community Engagement Coordinator

Lead Community Engagement That Makes a Difference!

Step into a pivotal leadership role as our Community Engagement Coordinator, where you'll guide a passionate team and shape meaningful connections between Council and the community. Your strategic insight and collaborative spirit will help deliver engagement outcomes that reflect the values and aspirations of Wollongong, supporting infrastructure and service delivery projects, and contributing to the city's social and cultural development.

This is a Permanent full-time role, salary from $109,530.17 up to $130,956.20 per annum plus superannuation (salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This role may require manual handling activities, and you may be required to work additional hours on weekends and evenings. Applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.

How you'll make a difference

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative engagement strategies across Council projects and programs.
  • Provide expert advice and support to all levels of management on communications and engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to foster inclusive and effective engagement.
  • Manage multiple projects using sound project management methodology to deliver outcomes aligned with Council's Corporate and Business Plans.
  • Oversee contracts, budgets, and resources to ensure efficient and sustainable service delivery.
  • Promote Council's values of Respect, Integrity, OneTeam, Sustainability, and Courage in all aspects of your work.

About you

You're a strategic thinker and a natural collaborator, passionate about creating meaningful connections between Council and the community. You bring:

  • A relevant degree (eg. Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field)
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with a track record of inspiring and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering major community engagement strategies and conducting social research.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, resolve conflict, and build trust across diverse groups.
  • Expertise in strategic planning, project management, and financial oversight.
  • A deep commitment to community development, access and equity
  • Advanced data analysis and report writing skills to inform decision-making and engagement outcomes.
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • The physical capability to undertake manual tasks as required.
