We’re looking for a Project Director to develop, procure, and deliver complex infrastructure that ensures safe and sustainable water solutions for Sydney’s growing population. About The Role As a Project Director of Major Projects, you will play a critical role in directing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of large-scale water infrastructure projects. Overseeing projects from $100 million to $1.5 billion, contributing to programs of work reaching up to $3 billion! You will lead cross-functional teams, engage with key stakeholders, and drive projects from vision to successful reality. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight for the full lifecycle of major infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Lead and mentor high-performing teams, fostering collaboration across internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee procurement strategies, contract negotiations, and stakeholder engagement to deliver project success.
- Identify and mitigate project risks as well as technical and commercial issues while ensuring compliance with planning approvals and sustainability goals.
- Represent Sydney Water in external forums, advocating for project outcomes and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
To Thrive In This Role, You’ll Bring
- A relevant degree qualification (preferably Engineering, Construction Management, Science, Commerce) or equivalent executive experience.
- Proven experience in directing complex, high-risk, high-profile infrastructure projects, ideally in water, civil, environmental, or related/transferable sectors.
- Demonstrated success in building, maintaining, and evolving large multi-disciplinary teams and fostering high-performing project environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills – ability to work with government, regulators, and industry partners.
- A strategic mindset – able to think six months ahead, anticipate & manage risks, solve complex problems, and drive successful outcomes.
