  • Provide input into, or lead, cloud architecture and solution design aligned with organisational strategy and government standards.

  • Develop, maintain, and improve Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including contributing to or defining cloud engineering standards and patterns.

  • Support secure cloud adoption in line with Australian Government security frameworks, including ISM and PSPF.

  • Implement automation and orchestration to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

  • Monitor and optimise cloud environments for performance, resilience, availability, and cost effectiveness.

  • Provide technical advice to project teams, stakeholders, and leadership on cloud services, patterns, and emerging technologies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and technical requirements into cloud solutions.

  • Contribute to, or lead, cloud governance, architecture patterns, and best practices across the organisation.

  • Mentor and support team members, fostering capability uplift and continuous improvement.

  • Manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Technical Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience appropriate to their level across many of the following areas:

  • Cloud engineering and/or cloud architecture within complex enterprise or government environments.

  • Strong knowledge of one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated services.

  • Networking, security, and identity management in cloud ecosystems.

  • Infrastructure as Code, automation, and orchestration tools.

  • Containerisation and orchestration technologies.

  • Experience working in agile or delivery-focused environments.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to provide guidance, mentoring, and technical leadership where required.

Essential Criteria

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:

  • Cloud engineering and/or cloud architecture within complex environments.

  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated services.

  • Networking, security, and identity management in cloud environments, including alignment with Australian Government security frameworks.

  • Automation and orchestration tools.

  • Containerisation and orchestration technologies.
