About the role
This role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of best-practice information and records management frameworks to ensure Council information and customer data are accurate, secure, well-governed, and compliant with legislative and organisational requirements.
The position provides strategic oversight of data quality governance and information lifecycle management, while guiding the transition to modern digital systems and strengthening organisational capability in information management. The role also leads and develops a dedicated team, supporting a professional, collaborative and service-focused environment.
What your day will look like
- Leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of information and records management frameworks.
- Embedding data quality governance practices, including setting standards, monitoring data integrity and partnering with business units to improve data management practices.
- Overseeing the integration and optimisation of recordkeeping systems and data platforms to support secure and efficient information management.
- Identifying and managing information governance risks across the full information and records lifecycle.
- Providing leadership, direction and performance management to team members, including coaching and professional development.
- Supporting staff through organisational and system changes, identifying training needs and building capability.
- Promoting a positive, respectful and accountable team culture aligned with organisational values.
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Addressing workplace matters in a timely and constructive manner.
What you will bring
- Degree or diploma in Information Management or a related discipline, with several years of relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications with extensive relevant experience.
- Extensive working knowledge of current PROV Standards, public records requirements, local government information obligations, and associated audit expectations.
- Extensive applied understanding of current privacy and data protection requirements and defensible destruction practices, with the ability to advise stakeholders on compliance implications.
- Substantial experience in developing and implementing records and information management frameworks and policies.
- Substantial experience in managing teams, including performance development, coaching, and leading staff through organisational change, supported by strong stakeholder engagement skills to drive organisational adoption of new systems and processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, including the ability to design and deliver presentations, training, and guidance that support organisational understanding and capability uplift in information governance and data quality.
