**About the opportunity**

Reporting to the Manager, Finance Operations, as a key member of our Finance division, the Claims Accountant will utilise their expertise in financial accounting to contribute to Finance Operations through the accurate and timely reporting of financial information, engage, lead and provide guidance to Authorised Agents and the Claims Accounting Officer and provide technical and SME expertise for financial accounting policies and procedures to drive best practice and ensure compliance.

This position will have a specific focus on the monitoring of WorkSafe’s Authorised Agent accounting, insurance accounting (premium and claims), investment accounting, accrual accounting, sub ledger accounting and the preparation of management reporting.

This position presents strong professional development opportunities in relation to managerial experiences as well as creative opportunities to experiment with new initiatives and the opportunity to connect and engage with a variety of stakeholder groups.

**Key Accountabilities:**

*   Responsible for maintaining the integrity of WorkSafe’s general ledger and manage the end to end month end process in a timely and accurate manner. 
*   Review, prepare and manage balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely follow-up and resolution of any reconciling items.
*   Responsible for engaging, leading and providing guidance to Authorised Agents, the Claims Accounting Officer and system providers to drive continuous improvement, ensure data integrity, clearing outstanding items and addressing ACCtion/VPCS (business systems) matters.
*   Providing finance expertise, procedural and system training to WorkSafe’s Authorised Agents’ finance staff members and backfill of the Claims Payments Officer.
*   Responsible for delivering sections of the annual and half-year statutory financial reports in compliance with accounting standards and ministerial directions.
*   Support treasury activities such as monitoring bank account balances, initiating transfers, and reconciling bank accounts.

You will have good technical experience in relation to financial accounting combined with strong planning, organisational and deadline management skills. In addition you will have the ability to work collaboratively within a strong team culture whilst being able to work autonomously when required.

**Skills and experience**

*   Demonstrable problem solving and analytical skills.

*   Good understanding of computerised financial management systems and proficiency in the use of software applications.

*   Experience in reporting under the Financial Management Act 1994 and the Standing Directions 2018 Under the Financial Management Act 1994. (Desirable)
*   Experience with Oracle Cloud financial software. (Desirable)
*   Experience in DTF’s reporting system (State Resources Information Management System(SRIMS) (Desirable)

**Qualifications**

*   Professional qualification such as a CA/CPA or equivalent.
*   A relevant tertiary qualification with a focus on financial accounting.

SESG is responsible for providing immediate and longer-term support through its diverse portfolios, such as emergency and incident response, High Security Escort of prisoners, state-wide training services, barrier control, search and K9 services and management of firearms. **About The Role** The State Training Instructor is responsible for the coordination, development, and delivery of training to custodial officers across the correctional system, including within the SESG. The State Training Instructor requires strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of modern adult learning principles. The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking 2X Industry Senior Officer - Kitchen, to provide a critical role within Custodial Operations / Corrections Victoria. **About The Business Unit** HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne and is part of the Barwon South-west Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners. This position is a **shift-based and rostered role**, which includes **weekend work**. The Vocational Services Team consists of the three key portfolios, education, programs, and industries. The role of the team is to prepare prisoners for release and to enhance post release employment opportunities through prisoner employment, integrated on the job training, targeted educational opportunities and personal development programs and activities. **About The Role** Prison Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within a prisoner industry or service industry under the guidance of a Prison Industry Supervisor. The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, along with highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. All functional areas within the kitchen/catering portfolio operate as a vocational training environment. The Industry Supervisor supports Industry Officers to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, placing emphasis upon individual offender management with a view to rehabilitation. **Some Of Your Duties Will Include**
